Relay

Relay is a one year (Sept - June) discipleship and training programme for recent graduates who desire to be challenged and changed whilst serving the Christian Unions of Britain or Ireland. It is an opportunity to spend time doing evangelism as well as investing in the lives of CU members thus providing foundations for a lifetime in Christian service, be that in 'secular' or 'Christian' work.

What does it involve?

Each Relay Worker's responsibilities are very much dependent upon their own gifts and the circumstances in the CUs that they are working with. The work may involve meeting up with a CU leader to encourage them and study the Bible; it may mean being a member of a small/cell group to support its leader and members; it may involve doing some ‘up front' stuff like talks or leading worship. It will mean devoting yourself to service, accountable relationships and to growing in knowing God and becoming more mature as a Christian.

What training is given?

Relay Workers attend 3 training weeks as well as receiving regular ‘on the job' training alongside a mentor/supervisor and within a local IFES Ireland regional team. There is also an integral study programme and other optional training events.

What about finances?

Relay Workers commit themselves to work within, rather than for, IFES Ireland and so live ‘by faith', dependant upon God's provision for finances. You would need between £4,000- £5,000 (€6000 - €7500) for the year to cover everyday living expenses and a contribution to training costs (£575 / €875) - this seems like a lot at first but we've not yet seen a Relay Worker leave the programme due to financial pressure. On the contrary, year after year Relay Workers testify to God's amazing provision.

For an application pack, or if you have any questions, please ask your staff worker or contact the IFES Ireland Belfast Office.
