Main session talks from Stephen Williams* with Q&A will provide foundations for forming a ‘Christian Mind'. Discussions over coffee and around the bookstall, a film discussion, Saturday evening gig and seminars will provide different forums to explore how this is worked and lived out in practice. To develop a well-rounded understanding of the issues and to help you think across different spheres you have the opportunity to go to one ‘in-depth' seminar and to overviews of two other topics.
SeminarsScience (Andrew Bowie)Faith and Science often appear to be clashing in the media. Do the two oppose each other? How does our faith shape how we do science and understand the universe, and how do we approach and understand those clashes? Arts (Steve Stockman)The arts often don't figure highly on the radar of the church, but what is a Christian perspective on the arts? How do we think Christianly and live out faith in relation to the arts, whether that's film, music, creativity or university courses? Business Ethics (Peter Lynas)How can we see our work as part of the mission of God in the world? Is it just about evangelizing on our coffee break or is there more to it? How can we have a holistic understanding of work and begin to strive for excellence, creativity and innovation? Faith in a Pluralistic Society (David and Fran Porter)How do we live with difference, in a society that is no longer ‘christian' but made up of people with very different views on morality and religion? What is it to be a Christian voice in the pluralistic society of 21st century Ireland that lives and speaks with truth, love and respect? Citizen of Earth (Graham Nevin)We are citizens of heaven, but are also called to live as citizens of the earth that God has created. How are we to think and live as Christians in a global village? How should we engage with issues of environment and global poverty?
AccommodationAccommodation will be in twin rooms on Maynooth's beautiful and historic South Campus but places are limited so to guarantee a bed you need to book early. There is also a non-residential rate if you wish to stay with friends or at home and travel in. Costs
