Munster questions

Peter Kenny, Relay Worker in Munster writes ...

"Glad You Asked" (or GYA) is a DVD-fuelled discussion resource that looks at different questions relating to the Christian faith. It starts with quite general questions and allows for freedom of thought and expression. I hesitate even to refer to it as a course as that sounds far too structured but it is designed with the intention of inviting friends along to and working through on a regular basis. A key feature of GYA is its recognition of the post-modern mindset; it is flexible enough to allow the group to progress at their own pace with intermittent DVD clips and pre-prepared questions. There is also plenty of material provided to help those guiding the discussion.

At present there three groups running in Munster (as well as groups in Coleraine and Belfast), with each at a different stage. UCC's course is drawing to a close, CIT are in mid-swing and we have only had one GYA evening so far in UL, looking at the question "Does God Matter?" Running the course has been positive experience so far generating lots of interesting and useful discussion. It has provided an excellent focal point for reaching out to friends and acquaintances; no matter what kind of a relationship you are in with somebody, it is easy invite people along. The atmosphere in each venue has been one of openness, honesty and respect, and one in which everyone has felt very comfortable.

Having said all that, there is plenty of room for more students in each of the courses. So, much prayer is needed for opportunities to invite students and for them to take this small step towards seeking God.
