Crying out day and night

Rebekah Green from UUC CU writes ...

Throughout the year Coleraine CU had been taught and challenged about prayer. So what was the next step? Getting lost in it.

We kicked of 24 hours of constant prayer with a prayer walk around the campuses. Before it was over stories were filtering through of people having chances to pray with security guards and things like that. We had only begun to collectively spend time with God and He was showing Himself to us, just as he promises to do.

We had the use of a local church's office as a base for overnight prayer. All the time slots had been taken by at least one person, but throughout the night there were always more people who came along for some extra prayer time. There is something special about getting up in the middle of the night to spend time with God.

During the day we moved into the university prayer room. It was great to pray for the university and students from inside it. There were conversations with students who were asking what was going on and why. Our very presence in the prayer room prompted questions from other users of the room of different religions.

The 24 hours were rounded off with a time of community prayer and praise. This opportunity to spend extended time in worship and prayer was well received and a fitting way to end the day.

As C H Spurgeon states:

"We cannot all argue, but we can all pray;
we cannot all be leaders, but we can all be pleaders;
we cannot all be mighty in rhetoric, but we can all be prevalent in prayer."
