Thought provoking
Laura Prue from UUB CU writes ...
In December the Art College (UUB) CU ran an event inviting anyone in our college to come and ask questions. Hadden Wilson was our speaker for this lunchtime forum. To publicise it, we took a night in November and, after eating, praying and praising God together, we went out and put up thought provoking posters and artwork around the campus. Each piece asked a question such as "Am I an accident?" or "Where is God?" The aim was to challenge people, as this is part of the very nature of many artists. We certainly raised a reaction! Many posters were torn down or scribbled over. However, some responded with questions. It amazed us that people cared enough to bother. One lecturer was so stirred by one poster that he brought it in to his class and critiqued it in front of fifty students. Not only did these fifty students see this one small poster but they were all forced to think about it!
The forum event didn't draw as many people as we had hoped, but the CU was greatly blessed by Hadden's wisdom. We appreciated having a space in which we could ask difficult questions. The themes of which ranged from suffering, to those who never hear the word of God at all.
Our hope is to follow up on these events with others in the future which serve as open forums for discussion and new opportunities for outreach in their own right. We pray that as we make ourselves available to God, He would blow our minds as He moves on this campus.
