Three years of growth

James Fleury of CITCU writes...

For well over a decade there has been some form of a Christian Union in CIT. When I came along in 2003 there were usually just three of us meeting once a week during lunch. That is, three students plus our Staff and Relay Workers (a big plus!). Looking back, I can see the immense importance of the nurturing role these IFES Ireland workers have in small CU's.

From these small beginnings, my experience of CITCU has evolved, along with my own Christian faith. Through the many Bible studies, times of prayer, IFES Ireland conferences and all the other elements of life in the CU, I now have a clearer picture of the Gospel than when I turned up at my first CU meeting some three years ago.

What about the CU today? This year, our numbers shot up from around five to a dozen! The first night was very encouraging. Our main meeting takes place on a Monday evening and we have a smaller prayer meeting on Wednesday at lunchtime. The first term centred on a Monday Bible Study with a few social nights thrown in. Our "three-pronged approach" for 2007 includes a Bible study, a topic and the "Glad-You-Asked" DVD series, looking at life's big questions.

As for the future? Three years ago I would never have guessed that the CU would be so active or have as many students involved in it as it does today. So I hesitate to predict how things will be in another three years time. However, having seen what God has done and how the CU has changed, I wouldn't be surprised if it continues to go from strength to strength.
