Coffee of life
John Downey from UUJ CU writes ...
The "Coffee Stop" runs on Monday evenings outside the Students' Union on UU's Jordanstown campus. The team normally consists of students from the CU and from the campus Chaplaincies. We serve students and staff who use the Students' Union by offering them free tea, coffee and biscuits, and of course the chance to chat. While some of the team are serving and conversing, in the pool room you will find others praying for them and those they meet, throughout the evening. Coffee Stop provides members of the CU in Jordanstown with a great opportunity to share the Gospel in words and actions among those who may never come to CU or any other Christian event. It is an ideal way to begin friendships which provide ongoing opportunities to share God's good news.
The story of Alex and Rob is a good example. What started as a discussion about creation and evolution between a CU member and a Students' Union regular developed into a friendship. Through this relationship Alex had opportunities to share how God had saved him and how He continued to work in his life. Rob came to understand God's forgiveness and sacrificial love and chose to accept Jesus as his saviour and lord.
But this isn't the end of the story, Alex and Rob still meet together to discuss their faith, Alex discipling Rob and helping him come to grips with living as God's servant. Many other friendships have been formed through the Coffee Stop, and even though the results of these may not yet be apparent, seeds have been planted for the future.
