e:con 2007
Rob Peake from UUC CU writes...
e:con has had a tremendous impact on many areas in my life and from talking to some of the student leaders from Maynooth, I'm not the only one. I was challenged by the Lord on many issues, chiefly: the importance of leadership, having an outward looking vision for the CU and for myself, how I see other people, and surrendering totally to God and His will. I think it is only now, nearly two months on that I realise how much being a part of e:con has, and is affecting me.
Generally, eight hours of lectures and seminars each week doesn't unduly strain my brain but I genuinely found e:con to be information overload. I spent much of the second half of the conference frantically taking notes. Then, later in the week, I went through them at home and tried to apply the teaching to my own situation. The teaching by Keith McCrory was top drawer - real, practical and Bible-based. The streams, where we met in more role specific groups, were excellent. I really enjoyed the bouncing ideas off students from all over the island. Not only was the inter-campus mingling good banter, but it was great to find out what other CUs were up to, particularly the smaller ones, and what they wanted us to pray for.
I guess looking back, what really excites me most about e:con is that this was just the beginning. As students we learnt a lot from it. The important thing now is to take that learning and directly apply it to our individual lives, our CUs and our campuses. This is where the work starts; "The fields are white unto harvest ..."
